Ask the friend what it was that you did to cause this friend to stop treating you with the love and respect that was once a part of the relationship that the two of you had. Give the person a chance to help you become a better person. Ask the friend to treat you as they would like to be treated themselves.

Well if you assume this because they are talking to someone you have a problem with then it maybe they are trying to watch your back. Trying to find out if the person you don't get along with isn't up to anything. Could be that they aren't talking about you at all.
Try talking to them calmly.

Best thing to do is to confront the best friend, ask whats up.

But me, i'd just let it be, and think what did i do to deserve my own best friend saying stuff about me..and if i cant find the answer, maybe i should reconsider treating that person as my best buddy!

What are they saying? Have they said the same to your face? Maybe you should think about what's being said. Otherwise, that person may not be such a good friend after all. But we need to know what they said to tell.

I flat out ask them about it.

The person that told me this info may be just trying to start trouble, so I would bring it to thier attention and get thier input and decide from there.
If someone did that to me, I would want a chance to explain, and I try to treat others the way i would want to be treated.

It's a vicious circle of suspicion...you never truly do unless it's said to you directly. If you don't like face to face confrontation and you're positive that it's happening, then there's nothing making you be their friend..give it some distance. Then see what happens.

I don't have a best friend. I try not to cuz everytime someone claims to be my best friend something happens and we're not friends anymore.

confront them.
then when they lie to your face, make sure to let them know that you know they're lying lol.
*if they're a real friend, they'll admit to it and apologise. If they're not, they'll continue lying about it, then go off and say "do you believe she/he just asked me if i was talking about them?"......lol

*sighs* i despise back-biting, can't you tell?

*edit* although, you should give your best friend some credit, friends sometimes fight, and it may just be his/her way of venting and not necessarily meant to be spiteful. there's a difference!

tell her that you know that she has been talking about you behind your back, then ask her why, then dump her as a bff
cause bff's don't do that to each other.
