I live in Montana, am a white male, live with a single mom (income of $45,000), and have a sister in college. I hold a 4.0 GPA (not weighted) and rank 1st in a class of over 700. I will graduate as valedictorian. I will graduate with my Full Diploma in the International Baccalaureate Program. I have scored a 32 on my ACT (99th percentile). I am going to take the SAT II in Mathematics 2, Biology E/M, and U.S. History. I have scored a 213 on my PSAT and am a National Merit Semi-finalist. Early next year I will find out if I am a Finalist/Scholar. My extracurricular participation is as follows: Varsity Golf, Tennis, Speech and Debate, BPA, Spanish Club President, and National Honor Society. I have over 200 hours of community service. This includes but isn't limited to: Elementary School After-School Scholars, Rest Home, Underage Teen Pregnancy Home, Underprivileged Youth Golf Scramble, Elementary Spanish Class, and Rotary Basketball.
Opinions/advice?

Thank you all so much for your positive reinforcement. I have a good feeling I will get into at least one Stanford/Ivy League type school, but am slightly worried about my financial situation. Since I am solely supported by my mother and she only makes $45,000 a year, do you think I will recieve large amounts of scholarship money from these schools?

To get accepted into Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale and the other top 5-10 colleges it is all about going the extra distance. You will be applying against many students with near the same grades so what you are going to have to do is work you absolute hardest on writing the best essays and getting some amazing letters of reccomendation. Adding in a resume or any little thing will help you all the more. You want to protray your personality the best you can and why you are the perfect match for that school. You have outstanding credentials but you are not a sure-shot in to any one of the schools because acceptance rates are so low, if you apply to all of those on the list you are sure to get in at least two of them. Good luck to you!!

You are certainly qualified to get into any school -- and will get into some great universities.

That being said -- you have to realize that schools like Stanford only accept about 8% of those who apply. If we assumed that half of those who apply are qualified (and I think it is higher) then that means that only 16% of qualified applicants get in.

I doubt that they will look at you any more favorably than someone who has a 3.9 unweighted and is in the 98th percentile on the tests. While your GPA and test scores would be higher -- they would view you both as being qualified. The decision to take you or the other person will depend on factors other than your GPA and test score.

The determining factor for you will probably come down to your admissions essay -- so you need a killer essay.

Like I said -- you will get into a great school. It might be Stanford. It might not be.

Your schedule looks odd. I don't think its possible to learn algebra 1, 2 and geometry in one year and still have a decent grasp. You would really need some prior experience to be good at that. The other suspicious class you mentioned - "Biochemistry" - that's usually a class taken after finishing O-Chem and Gen Chemistry I which are both classes taken after finishing Algebra II
