first the of the minie ball was first used by french troops and the first submarine used in warfare was the Turtle, which unsuccessfully attacked the a British blockade during the American Revolution, and Steel warships were introduced shortly before the civil war. if you want new ideas that came about because of the civil war, try standardized railroad tracks, field hospitals, the repeating rifle, and I'm not entirely sure but the Gatling gun may have been introduced during the civil war.

The gatling gun was invented during the Civil War but saw only limited action late in the war. The U.S. army didn't like them at first because the firing mechanisms lacked a trigger making the gun useless if it jammed. Also, it overheated easily and was very heavy and difficult to set up quickly in a battle situation.
