'04s champ was argentina i think and italy was 2nd and US was 3rd.
if the US used the same line up like this FIBA tour. except having deron williams and tyson chandler out, replaced by wade and shaq, then they'll have a great chance of winning the gold medal!
right?
having Kidd, Bryant, James, Anthony, Howard, Billups, Redd, Miller, Prince, Amare, Wade and O'neal.
those 12 players will be fantastic!

if u guys want chauncey out, then it's fine.
im most concern about the C position.
if you guys want bosh for chandler and not shaq, then their chances would be less. who will be guarding yao ming?
6'11"s amare, bosh and dwight to 7'6" yao?
they can use amare and dwight in a team like argentina.
but if youre talkin bout domination, it's shaq.
shaq could be the 3rd man. cuz he's old and slow.
but yah whatever

i think having the same lineup as in FIBA, US has a 50-70% chance of winning the gold medal. That also depends on the health of the player after the tough 2007-2008 NBA season. For me, the lineup is complete at every position, it isn't necessary to drop Prince and Chandler in the line-up since they play very well as a role player and a great defender too. The team only needs is the chemistry and the cohesiveness in the tournament and if they've done that, it's no surprise if they'll emerge as olympic gold medallist.

Personally, I really like Chandler. They are actually considering dropping Prince last I heard. I think the main concern isn't necessarily with the C position, because the only team with a big bulky C is China with Yao, and he's still kind of slow, so you can get around him. What my concern is, is with 3pt shooting. That's what Miller and Redd are for, additionally Anthony is extending his range, but still, they're not as dangerous outside the arc as any of the Euroleague teams. I mean, the biggest C in Euroleague would probably by Ilgauskas or Gasol, so C isn't a problem, but they're riddled with outside shooters. I think Wade will add an interesting explosive dynamic, and if they can tighten their perimeter defense and just explode they have a good chance, it'd be pretty interesting actually if they shifted Wade to PG and uptempoed the whole game, which would require they drop Billups too. I agree that they need a bigger body inside, especially if they continue starting Melo at the 4, Shaq might work out, I'm not sure who else they're looking at, otherwise I'd try to provide more input.

they have a good chance right now. DO NOT take out williams. dwill is a very good point gurad, he has a strong upper body so he can dominate the opposing teams PG, he has improved his shooting, and he is already a great passer. DO NOT put shaq in, he wouldnt agree to it anyway. shaq is too slow to play and he is very injury prone he wont play olympic ball when he cant even finish a nba season anymore.

I'm not putting Shaq on any team right now, I doubt if he can get out of bed without pain.

USA will win the olympics easily unless there is a boycott, which there are now rumors of due to China's repression of it's people. It won't even be a close tournament.
