Someone i know : Eats under 500 calories a day, hates her body and wants to lose weight, she is told she is skinny but does not think she's skinny enough, lies to people about what she has eaten and sometimes purges if she eats too much. Is this anorexia? She's 5'4'' and 115 pounds, she's aiming for 100.

Yes, my wife wife had that as a teenager. I know you don't want to seem like you are betraying her or whatever but it's a very dangerous disease & needs to be taken seriously. It has the potential to get really bad, I know her battle did. make sure you talk to someone that can get help for her because if you try & talk to her it's going to be like talking to a brick wall.

For the record people Bulimia is where you binge eat & then throw it up. Most Bulimics are actually normal weight or even a touch overweight. Anorexia is where you do not eat enough & starve your body & most Anorexics are very underweight. The psychology behind Anorexia & Bulimia are actually pretty different.

Sounds like it could certainly be an eating disorder of some kind. Maybe anorexia or bullemia. It's nothing to mess around with. Maybe you could find some information for her on the internet and print it off and sort of anonymously give it to her to start with.

If you're in school- maybe you should go to the school counselor to put a bug in their ear of your concern for her.

You're a good friend/ person to be concerned and ask questions.

You might also let her parents know in some way.

Not sure how involved you want to get into all of it- but sounds like if you don't- the girl may end up really damaging her body beyond repair.

Good luck!

Yes, or belimia. She needs to see a doc!

Bulimia, also called bulimia nervosa, is a disorder in the eating disorder spectrum. Bulimia is characterized by episodes of secretive excessive eating (bingeing) followed by inappropriate methods of weight control, such as self-induced vomiting (purging), abuse of laxatives and diuretics, or excessive exercise. Like anorexia, bulimia is a psychological disorder. It is another condition that goes beyond out-of-control dieting. The cycle of overeating and purging can quickly become an obsession similar to an addiction to drugs or other substances. The disorder generally occurs after a variety of unsuccessful attempts at dieting.

For a 5'4, 115 is pretty fine. Idle weight for 5'4 is between 105 to 140. But going under 100 or aiming for 100 is considered anorexia. Other then that right now her weight is pretty fine compare to her height.

Sounds like it to me.. you have to talk to her and tell some trusted adult about this.. it doesnt have to be her parents but maybe someone that she will actually listen to.. This will get her seriously sick and ruin her body.. We need at least 1500 calories in the day.. just keep talking to her an dnever give up on being her friend.. good luck

yeah, sounds like an eating disorder to me, I had one as a Senior in high school and they can really mess up your body later in life. Luckely I never threw up my food, but I greatly limited my food. The sad thing was no one really seemed to notice. Youre a good friend to notice and she really needs some help. Go tell her parents or something, obviously they havent noticed

i'm 5'4 and i always been small i was 100lbs and i dropped down to 86lbs and i don't look bad at all (it also does get notice being skinny to alot of people. but if she's to the point to lower her wait by lying on what she ate and if she feels fat she needs help. i have to keep weight on because if she get 100lbs she'll be weak and that's how i am and trust me it's not good at all. also find out if she's stress at all thats really major and need to watch signs is she's sad at all because if that happens she'll stop eating.

Probably a cross between anorexia and bulimia. Poor girl. Sounds like she needs some counseling.

Well her body weight is normal for her height rite now, but if she continues her behavoir and does not change her attitude she maybe become very unhealthy and perhaps need to be treated for anorexia.
