When the communists came to power in China, they outlawed footbinding. It does still happen in very remote villages, but it is rare.

My mother worked for a woman who was born to a missionary family in China and lived there to age 16. Her house was like a museum. She actually had a wedding slipper meant for a bound foot. It looked like a silk "Cabbage Patch Doll" shoe. I could barley fit my fist inside. The practice is outlawed but I bet it still probably happens underground in rural areas. At least the oppressive Chinese government is good for something. I am pretty sure they don't allow the tradition to continue.

I should think not anymore. The purpose of foot binding in ancient china is to make woman look more delicate and petite. They have to bind their foot since young, and as only the rich can afford to bind their foot, woman who don't bind their foot are being looked-down in those days. However, in present society, it was viewed as a humiliation to woman in those days, as foot-binded woman tends to walk with their butt swaying, while man watch and admire from behind.

The practice has been mostly eradicated and is very rare. Probably it only occurs in very rural secluded areas of China. However, there are still elderly women living in China who must bear the effects of the practice to this day.

Hopefully not and what a sad culture that a man/woman finds a woman deformed feet as desirable. I mean if it was a natural occurrence so be it but to deliberately break a persons bones so it can grow in that fashion.

It has been banned by most cultures and countries where it was common place.

HOWEVER, I saw a documentary where some masochist or fetish practioners do this to themselves, but that is uncommon.
