girls wore leggings, chunky jewelry, headbands, off-the-shoulder shirts and long shirts... did they wear long turtleneck sweaters? did they layer under the sweaters like girls do now, with tanktops or something?
any other advice if i were dressing up in 80's garb?

The 80s -
1] big hair - with a side ponytail
2] full makeup - blue eyeshadow, tons of mascara, pink lipstick
3] chunky earrings with suits; hoops for more casual; plastic jewelry
4] NOT leggings - legwarmers! over pants! [ yes, I know, I still can't believe it either ]
5] no layers under topsTs - you guys started that one! Off shoulder Ts or sweatshirts
6] slouch socks
7] jellies

You sound like you have the clothing figured out. For shoes I would wear flats in bright colors, they look good with leggings with a long shirt over. Yes, chunky jewelry is a must. For the hair go big. If you have long-ish hair crimp it (be sure to use a heat spray) or you can sleep in small braids overnight. Be sure to wear a side pony-tail too. Think valley-girl.

Definately some sweet high heels. Dont forget those cute little white sock with the nice little ruffle around them. Get a matching ruffle thing for your hair. good luck

Well.. not exactly.. stuff wasn't as fitted as it is now-
Try lots of neon, big hair bows, tight stonewashed jeans, SHOULDER PADS- wide shoulder- think "power dressing"
stirrup pants or 3/4 length leggings and TREMENDOUSLY oversized tops- usually sweaters. or some sort of exercise gear..
HUGE glitzy earrings are good- and big hair. big big BIG hair..

fishnet stockings and shirts
blue jean skirts
rock 'n roll shirts
banana clip hair bows
leather pants or skirts
they didn't layer their clothes unless the clothes they were wearing were see through

yup u got it right.. everything now is wat use to be wore in the 80s.. go for bright colors and belts around the waist.
