well i have hayes accura 144+ fax 144 external modem which i used in windows 98 before. Can I use this Windows Xp as well? I tried to let XP detect it but could not. Is there a solution for this? Please help

Wow that is so old, there may not be a driver for it outside of Win 98, it was even around for Win95!!
Newer modems are 56K for data and have better data compression.

XP will detect a new modem automatically also.

but see if this driver works for XP

Your modem is so old Windows XP has no drivers for it.

Here is possibly some assistance:

If that doesn't work, I would recommend purchasing a more modern 56 Kbs modem if possible that guarantees Windows XP compatibility.

Check with Hayes and see if they have XP drivers for it.

you may need to upgrade the modem by downloading the firmware.
