If you don't know about something that could hurt you or make you sad then you are blissfully happy....therefore "ignorance is bliss"

Yeah you kinda got the concept, staring / making eye contact with a girl doesn't mean the guy likes her. In MY perspective, it can mean three things: 1. The guy is comfortable talking to the girl, and is comfortable with her presence around (just friends). I plenty of friends that are girls and I always make eye contact when I talk to them, it's just casual u kno? 2. The guy wants to meet the girl / is interested in her (acquaintance). Either that, or... the girl is weird-looking or ugly lol. But still, guys wouldn't stare at a girl that long if she's like that. 3. The guy likes the girl. He doesn't know how to express his feelings, but wishes he could find a way to do so. I would tell you straight up how to tell which one of these views does a guy mean when he makes eye contact or stares, but I don't think I can. You should just.. kinda sense it. Good luck, you'll be more familiar with it along the way haha. Hope this helped ;)

Hi,

To me, the phrase is a way of saying that the more you know about life, the world, and its problems, the more troubled you will inevitably feel. If you don't know anything is wrong, then you'll likely be a happy person (although that happiness comes under false pretenses).

Near as I can tell, the phrase was coined by poet Thomas Gray in his "Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College."

'Since sorrow never comes too late,
And happiness too swiftly flies.
Thought would destroy their paradise.
No more ; where ignorance is bliss,
’Tis folly to be wise."

Sage words, but they leave the question -- "if ignorance is bliss, then what should intellectuals do?"

The full quote is "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise." It's from a poem by some English poet named Thomas Gray, who lived in the 1700's.

The quote means that maintaining naive and rosey illusions about the world often feels better--or has better consequences--than seeing the world as the sad place that it really is.

The quote tells us that the possession of wisdom is not always rewarding, which is correct. However, I like to believe that its recommendation of ignorance is facetious.

it is an idiom.... trouble is with a few words of focus you have to fill in the infinite void that surrounds it so it is limited.
Actually it is a paradox in that ignorance in general is just what produces pain but one must give credit to those things that are suited for ignoring out of awareness and good judgment . ever throw a rock in the direction of something to indicate it's presence even though it's further than you can throw . enlightenment is bliss in reality and ignorance is misery . but to have the enlightenment of knowing when ignorance is necessary or using it to sarcastically but in a kind way point out folly or the usage of virtue and happiness over absolute truth are viable things that come to my mind I'm sure there are other usages out there. hope that helps rather than just confusing the issue.

The older you get, the more you will understand what this phrase means. It is better to be a child and not care about the worries of your parents than if you were an adult and you see how imperfect the world around you is.

The correct quotation is, "Where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise." This means that WHEN it is better not to know, it is better not to know, BUT not all the time.

when you can get away with anything cause people tend to ignore you or not pay attention to the things you do..

usually their mind and attention is on something else...
another case,
when people are in denial on facts and truth, their way is to dress it up...

example... 1

You hate this girl, but you pay more attention on her, fighting or what ever, in the mean time, the guy you want to date gets picked up by your friend...

or you're a stripper at night and your parents believe your just a dancer..

example... 2
your sister is a druggie, and your parents covers it up by saying she's an actress acting out a part...

It means you're happier not knowing some particular thing. You feel better not getting the bad news.
