The media is a joke, I cannot stand Katie Kuric, Curic. Dan Rather can go cry in a corner. They are all fake, agenda driven face pieces. Read, look and listen to all sources and then hold their feet to the fire. That phone call to your Senator has a lot of power...just make sure you are a voter; they'll know if you are or someone to just ignore.

The Media exists to "Inform" and make Money. -Unfortunately, NOT always in That order. I liken them to different breeds of dogs... -Some are pretty GOOD at following the "scent" of a good Story- & "barking" to report it. OTHERS just "wag their tails" at what's going on- and collect their "advertizing" dog food at the end of the day... The WORST of these, are those "dogs" that can be "bought off" with a "bone" or two- by evil-doers lurking in the "Bushes". THOSE dogs give the REST- a bad name...- because THOSE dogs -don't Bark... And unfortunately- there are TOO MANY- of those... :(

"Popular press" redirects here; note that the University of Wisconsin Press publishes under the imprint "The Popular Press".
Mass media is a term used to denote a section of the media specifically envisioned and designed to reach a very large audience such as the population of a nation state. It was coined in the 1920s with the advent of nationwide radio networks, mass-circulation newspapers and magazines, although mass media was present centuries before the term became common. The term public media has a similar meaning: it is the sum of the public mass distributors of news and entertainment across mediums such as newspapers, television, radio, broadcasting, which require union membership in large markets such as Newspaper Guild and AFTRA, & text publishers. The concept of mass media is complicated in some internet media as now individuals have a means of potential exposure on a scale comparable to what was previously restricted to select group of mass media producers. These internet media can include personal web pages, podcasts and blogs.

The communications audience has been viewed by some commentators as forming a mass society with special characteristics, notably atomization or lack of social connections, which render it especially susceptible to the influence of modern mass-media techniques such as advertising and propaganda. The term "MSM" or "mainstream media" has been widely used in the blogosphere in discussion of the mass media and media bias.

Mass media can be used for various purposes:

- Advocacy, both for business and social concerns. This can include advertising, marketing, propaganda, public relations, and political communication.
- Enrichment and education.
- Entertainment, traditionally through performances of acting, music, and sports, along with light reading; since the late 20th century also through video and computer games.
- Journalism- news and blogging.
- Public service announcements.

Another description of Mass Media is central media meaning they emanate from a central point, the same identical message to numerous recipients. It is claimed this forces certain intrinsic constraints on the kind of messages and information that can be conveyed, such as:

- An inability to transmit tacit knowledge (or perhaps it can only transfer bad tacit knowledge as opposed to good),
- A focus on the unusual and sensational rather than a restatement of wisdom,
- The promotion of anxiety and fear to sell the newspaper / channel, etc.
- Simplification of complex issues so as to appeal to more sorts of people.
- It can be a conflict of interest when large corporations own large news outlets, and thusly, control what the people know, i.e. corporate propaganda.
- The manipulation of large groups of people through media outlets, for the benefit of a particular political party and/or group of people.

The mass media today is part of everyday life" Using relevant theories and studies evaluate the role of the media influence on us as consumers.

Almost all of us are affected by the media in one form or another, whether it is television, radio, films, music, magazines or even the internet. People try to convince themselves that they are not influenced by the media. Good models of mass media such as television, music and newspapers can be evaluated to see if the media can have an effect on us as consumers without us even realising it. Media has a connection all over the world, it is a mass communication technique that entertains, informs and influences people. In this essay I will be exploring some sociological theories that are in place on how the media affects our day to day life.

One of the biggest critics in Media's history is Marshall McLuhan. He brought up the idea that "the medium is the message".
This view of central media can be contrasted with lateral media, such as email networks, where messages are all slightly different and spread by a process of lateral diffusion.
