Do you have a pet? As long as I had my kitty with me, we could snuggle together and sleep.

Talk to mum and dad. You may have anxiety problem. Many 8 year olds have a problem with anxiety that often gets identified through their sleep issues since things often seem worse at night when the lights are out. If you seem anxious during the day as well as at bedtime, it's worth getting treatment for the anxiety before tackling the sleep issue.

omg this happens to me too and im 15. okay i have an idea, don't drink anything before you go to bed even if you are really thirsty. make sure you are tired out like from a sport or something. eating makes you full and tiered. so if you eat dinner and then go to bed that helps. turn of you light listen to something that helps you calm down or have you parents stay in your room and read to you idk. haha make sure you dont have to use the bathroom so you don't wake up and have to go.
here is a question you should ask yourself.
how old is my mattress?
is it comfy?
is my pillow too hard of soft?
is it too hot or cold?
do i need to sleep with something?
is there something thats bothering me???

hope this helped.
:]

Talk to your parents. Something is seriously wrong when an 8 year old cannot sleep.

my suggestion is : you take some exercise/work out, then have a warm water in your bath tube / shower,
then before you go to sleep, take a glass of warm milk.
Hope it could help you stay sleep until morning.
