If you get a high SAT score, then you will be qualified to go to Harvard. That's the good news.

Now for the bad news. Harvard accepts less than 10% of those who apply. Let's suppose that 50% of those who apply are qualified (I think it is actually higher) -- then less than 20% of the qualified students get admitted.

That means you need to do something to set yourself apart. Extracurriculars are nice -- but they are also unverifyable. Everyone has great extracurriculars & there is no way tha Harvard will know if you are telling the truth about them. And they know that.

For that reason, I think that your admissions essay is the way to set yourself apart. You need a killer essay to get into Harvard.

The good news is that if you don't get in there -- you will probably get into some good school.

Acceptance:
* Percent applicants admitted: 9%
---

and there are many students that have higher gpa's than you b/c of AP courses...
Harvard is a very difficult and competitive school to get into...and it would also help to be #1 rank in your school, being valedictorian and participate in a lot of clubs that have an impact in today's society...many schools have a club called amnesty international and there are plenty more out there like that...also if you are active in your student gov't, do a lot of community service, have excellent rapport with ALL your teachers, and SAT scores should be in this range:
SAT Critical Reading: 690 - 800
SAT Math: 700 - 790
SAT Writing: 690 - 780
and you must take AP classes and pass the AP exams, as well...

Your GPA is nice, but SAT's matter a lot as well, and as of now it really isn't possible to say. But even if you get a perfect SAT score, chances are low, because Harvard is extremely tough to get into. Extracurriculars matter a lot, and there isn't really anything that stands out in your extracurriculars. Have you done any volunteering? Any honors/awards? Do you hold leadership positions in these extracurriculars?
Generally Ivy League students do unique things like:
-publish a paper
-start a charity drive
-conduct research projects
-start a business
-intern at NASA

These are things that make an applicant stand out. IF you have time, i suggest you do something like this. But even if you don't, I'm sure you could get into MANY other prestigious universities because your credentials seem to be pretty good. good luck.

It's impossible to say what your chances are without the SATs.

Nothing stands out in your extracurriculars. You didn't say whether you're taking the most challenging curriculum your school offers.

Well-roundedness is highly overrated. You need to be exceptional academically, or very good academically and exceptional in some extracurricular area. Very good in a huge number of areas doesn't cut it.

The best things you can do are: continue to get all A's, do well on the SAT, and rise to leadership positions in one or more of the clubs you're in.

OK - I had thought you were in sophomore or junior year of high school. A lot can happen, but you seem to be on track to get into some very good college. Just keep working hard, and don't put too much pressure on yourself.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but the chances are still very low. Since Harvard is a private institution, they can make their admissions requirements as strict as they would like (which also means that they pretty much only accept those that come from wealthy, political and affluent backgrounds). With your credentials, you can still get into a top tier school. You don't need Harvard to be successful. Good Luck!
