Are we all going to get LOST without a SHEPHERD?

SOME humans are. Some people wouldn't know how to put one foot in front of the other if they weren't led. But, then where do the shepherds come from? Some people lead, others follow, & some do neither. Some find their own pastures, & as far as I've seen, making their own choices also makes them more "whole" as well as more honest with themselves.
If you're speaking of kindly shepherds, (don't forget the hard working, protective & loyal sheep dogs!) that's one thing. But leaders can be deceitful & cruel, & even turn on those whom they led.
We're only "lost" if we allow others to decide what path we must take.

I think we'd all be lost without a shepherd. I try to do things on my own and always end up lost. I get distracted by money, power etc. and it leads me astray.
I believe in free will so that is why we can fall away from the herd but don't we want to be found again? I think so. There is a need to belong.
I trust the Good Shepherd to put me back on track so that I can live to my full potential. It doesn't mean that I can't take my will back and go astray whenever I want but I think better when I have focus...a certain path.

Not all humans are sheep, some are like goats. Some sheep know the voice of their Shepherd, others seek His voice, but pride, money, power, greed, lust, distract them and becomes their shepherd. Then they are lost, but still follow a shepherd of personal desire. So yes, some humans, not the goats, are like sheep and need a shepherd and follow His voice, many go astray, get lost, and the Good shepherd looks for them.
The goats are a different story.

My mother told my older brother that he would be better as a leader, not as a follower. Well, he got kicked out of high school for skipping classes and kicking some guys tooth out. He wanted to become a lawyer, and so he took correspondence courses in our home and did quite well. Then he became an archaeologist instead, and he traveled to different countries to do digs for artifacts... but he told me that you can't really make a living as an archaeologist, so he became a boy grip, best boy grip, dolly grip until he became [and is now] a key grip. These are people who move the cameras to film shows, movies and commercials. The key grip is the leader of all grips...he's in charge of telling all the other cameramen what to do. He had filmed 8 shows of Psi-Factor and some of the Star Trek The Next Generation.
My mother was right, he became a leader instead of being one who is led by a herd of sheep.

While I'm a great believer in the Great Shepherd, I'm more often that little one who likes to stray. The rod and staff are more my comfort since I'm not all that into herds, too easy to get trampled and I'm not all that sure about following a lot of the goats or shepherds only in it for the money. It's not enough to have A shepherd, it has to be THE Shepherd, the One willing to lay down His life. He doesn't just lead me, He carries and shelters me.

Most of us, yes.

There are only rare ones who can lead themselves and find their way to the ultimate truth.
Others even if they try they burn their fingers or just don't try to be unlike sheeps. They return to their sheep state.

But if you test on your way whether the path shown by the leader is a true or correct one using scientific analysis and experiments then you are coming to analytic and experimental state, so much like human beings and so little like sheeps.

What makes science different from beliefs ?
It is the scientific and logical analysis and the experiments that produce results to verify scientific principles.
If one applies the same method to philosophical or spiritual spheres then one is above the state of sheeps.
One is at par or above the state of rational educated human beings.

Many are like sheeps who need a shepherd to show them a way, whether correct way or a wrong one, whether straight path or a one with a lot of pitfalls, whether the full path or a part of it. Many don't even get their way with or without a shepherd ! Again who knows whether the shepherd knows the full path or has only a partial knowledge of the journey and the path. A few find their way through someone who stops to show them the correct way.
A rare few can find their way themselves.
Such rare ones may not count to be a total of 1 or 2 in numbers among the billions on this earth !

So great is the play of nature !! with us !!!

Ask you one question Enki,
Why should you reinvent the wheel when the destination of the journey seems to be so far away ?
Chances are better that you will reach your destination if you use a readymade vehicle with wheels that are provided with it and if you have a guide along the way.
Imagine if every patient would have to reinvent and rediscover many of the inventions and discoveries of the medical science to get a proper medical treatment!

But if you think you can do it yourself, great !
It is a very good thought but you will need to cultivate the required qualities yourself for that thought to be materialized.
A lot of efforts, vision, skills, analysis, perseverance, tolerance and hard work will be required for this thought of yours to materialize.
Also you will need to retune your search in the light of favorable or unfavorable experiences and findings as well as keep maintaing balance in life on a large scale.

All the best in your search Enki.
It is possible to reach the destination solely through one's own search and without anyone showing the way.
But you need to be that much more clever and skillful for that search to succeed that way.

History of the human race has shown a few individuals succeeding that way. However many more have succeeded by getting correct guidance from knowledgeable ones who know the correct path and that too the complete path.

An old adage goes :
Never seek directions from the ignorant one or the one with partial knowledge.

Another adage goes :
Partial knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge.
Since at least the one with no knowledge knows that he or she does not have the knowledge.

Keep the flame of the true seach alive within yourself, you will find the way, with or without the help of someone else !

It's an analogy, by the way. Psalm 23 being a good place to start, John 9-10 where the analogy can continue. The analogy is also found in the prophets. It's just a very good analogy because many aspects of the relationship between a shepherd and the sheep are easily (for me), understood.

humans that like to be the shepherd, don't really like the herd of sheep that always needs to be led, but that's the only herd they get.
and humans that really like to be in a herd of sheep that always needs to be led, don't even know sometimes if they like their shepherd, but feel they are going to get lost without one.

I do not think that we are like a herd of Sheep, that needs to be Led, we have a mind of our own, that given the opportunity, we are great achievers, and can make up our minds on what we want to do with our Lives.

That all depends on perspective and how to develop desire for understanding. If we consider that there must have been a moment when the first consciousness became aware and started to make words. Then we must admit that because we are also aware we have come from it and are part of it, equal but different, the same but involved in our own experience with others that connects us to all others. Remember it is obvious that our history is ancient and consciousness has been around for many eons. It is for that reason you ask this question and I hope you discover that you are not lost but just waiting for the moment to act. Truly I say that those who are not lost know it because they are lead by the truth of their experience building wonderful memories. Those that think they are lost are lost and waiting to be found by a thought that changes their mind. The real question you want to ask is... When will I be found? Because the answer to your question should be obvious to a good man like you.
