I would expect, and have expected my husband to tell me the truth. In a kind manner though. He has told me when things didnt look flattering, or weren't quite right. But he did it with love and respect, and i would have reacted a lot differently had he have told me rudely, or not told me at all.

Speaking from a woman's point of view, you better keep those thoughts to yourself if you want to even go to the party, much less be sharing a bed with your significant other later in the evening. There is a tactful way to get her to change though--find another dress, and tell her while the one she's wearing is fine, you really like this other one MUCH better. 99.9% of the time, she'll change.
I never believe that honesty is the best policy when it involves hurting someone else's feelings.
And there's nothing wrong with being "fashionably late" to a party.

Be honest. A good woman will accept it and if she thought she looked hot in it she wouldn't be asking you. She obviously isn't too keen about it either.

You have to be honest. Tell her "Hun that dress doesnt' really flatter your figure" To a girl it will be like holy crap i have a figure. Good Luck.

you better have another outfit in mind when you do this. "honey, will you wear ____ for me instead? i think you look so hot in it and i want to show you off." btw, there is no such thing as being late for a party.

Say she looks ok and go to the party, never mention it. That's one battle you really don't want to have.
