Hi dear friends, a few weeks ago, someone used my car to jump start his car. Since then, I am having problem starting my car. When I turn the key to start, it only clicks, I keep trying and it keeps clicking until it starts finally. Could you please help me figure out what the problem may be and how I should be able to fix it myself without taking it to a garage, thank you very much in advance for your help. Sincerely, Rojin

Since this started with giving someone a jump, my best guess would be that when the jumper cables were attached, they may have loosened a battery cable. This would prevent the starter from getting the full 12.4 volts, and make it just click. You can check those simply by trying to move the cable with your hands. You may want to check the batter cable connection at the starter also. If they are tight, you can take a volt meter and ground the black lead, while putting the red lead on the cable at the starter and see if the cable is corroded or shorted internally. It would have considerably less voltage in the cable, than in the battery id the cable is bad. If all of this is ok, it may be the starter.

Since the problem started after giving someone a boost, I strongly suspect a bad connection at the battery. Take off the terminals and clean them well. This should take care of the problem. It's definitely not the alternator or the battery itself since the car will start eventually on its own. It's a problem with getting enough power down to the starter. Definitely battery connections.

probably finished off your battery. buying a new battery would be the cheapest option to try to fix it. even if it runs your lights and radio, it might not be able to provide enough amperes to start the engine.

My car used to do that exact thing and it was due to my starter switch, but then I got a new one, and installed it and it solved my problem. Good luck with your car.
