The only moment that you want to use a floppy disk is to install sata drivers or to boot. But you can avoid these by:
1) the first slipstream an xp disk using nlite and asdding the drivers to the install CD
2)using and hp utility to make an small jumdrive into a bootable floopy

You will hardly ever use a floppy. Possibly if you need a boot disk, Ghost Disk. Floppies are useless in new computers that offer USB boot, or network boot options

There is no practical reason to even have a floppy drive for the disk. Use a USB key instead.

storing a small file or program.
emergency start disc
transferring files to an older computer in a format that it can read
SOME new computers don't even have a floppy drive and some MB don't have any way to connect one either.
I still find them useful myself, but then I still use DOS computers for some things.
