yes you can use a heating pad under the tank.to make sure the temperature is not to hot, put ur forearm on the area when the heating pad is warmed up. if its not to hot for you, they should be fine but if it burns your skin(even a little) turn it down. snakes will burn themselves so make sure you dont put them in until you think its ok. also only put the heating pad under the tank to cover about half the bottom that way the snake can ge toff the heat if it chooses to.

Yes, under tank heating pads are best for most snakes, as they use belly heat to digest their food. You can hook it up to an inexpensive thermostat or dimmer switch to adjust the temp.

How should I measure the temperature?
Stick-on thermometers only measure the ambient (air) temperature. To measure the temps in your cage, you will need something that measures the surface temperatures in the cage, such as a temp gun or digital thermometer with a remote probe that can be placed in various areas around the cage on the substrate or just under it.

What is the best way to heat my snake’s environment?
Under tank heaters or heat tape are more effective than lights. These are also the most efficient method as they cost less, last longer, are very low wattage, and since heat rises, it makes more sense to heat from the bottom than the top. You can also use heat panels, incandescent bulbs, or ceramic heat emitters.

I use newspapers for my bp's enclosure. I also have heat lamps and an undertank heater (fifty gallon aquarium) Remember, don't put heat sources on both sides of the tank. The snake needs to have temperature options. The undertank heating pad won't hurt the snake. I myself like to have a few extra layers of newspaper over that particular spot, just to make doubly sure the snake isn't burned.

If you have a heating pad that keeps his home about 80 degrees on the hot side he should be fine. Make sure to put a hide on the warm side because it creates a nice little pocket of hot air.
