Here's a far stretch. I was recently looking up info on South America and found that Uruguay has a sculpture of fingers coming out of the ground. I thought you might be interested. The name of the artist is Mario Irrazábal and here is a website that has been translated. Some things didn't quite make it through translation, but it's worth a read, if you are interested. At least look at the pics.

Pedro Friedeberg's sculpture "Silla Mano." He was born in Florence in 1936 then moved to Mexico at the beginning of WWII.
