Hello. I am currently 37 weeks along with my pregnancy. I have what is called Larsen Syndrome, which is a genetic defect that affects the joints in the body. It has a number of other side affects, but I was lucky enough for it to only affect my hips, my right knee, and cause clubfoot (which have all been corrected enough for function).

Does anyone have any experience with this, something similar, or even ever heard of this????

Expert/medical advice would be greatly appreciated.

And just so you know, yes, my doctor is aware of this... LOL.

My Larsen's is moderate. I have only the ability to bend my right knee at a 90 degree angle. And, I was born with no hip sockets, so those are custom made by the wonderful doctors at UCLA! :-) I have flexion movement in my hips, though, but need support usually. Physical activity causes pain after a while, but helps with the flexion overall.

I would imagine that youre doctor, if he had concern, would tell you what would be different in your case.

My hips do not stay in joint, due to sickness as a child, I had a hard time keeping them in and supporting myself for leverage when pushing, but I CHOOSE that hardship because I wanted to deliver on a stool and not a bed.

Iam sure that if you can lay down and maybe use a bar for leverage, or if your midwife can do some tug-of-war moves with you with a rope or sheet, you'll be just fine.

I had to have people support my thighs. And my hips didnt stay in well for about 5 months after, and they pinched constantly laying on my sides in bed, especially the right (the one most scarred by sickness), but the more active I was after, and the more my hormones regulated, the better it got.

Iam not sure just how bad your larsens is, but I know for me the more active I am the better my joints handle things. I know thats true for injury, deform, and atheritis as well. Perhaps it is the same for larsen's.
