Hi All,

1. I believe Nudism is much more accepted in Germany than in other countries, is this true?

2- Does this mean that all Germans (or at least a high majority) are comfortable with nudity in the house or in public with other people? Also, pajarams are not common in Germany?

3 - Would it be acceptable to be in nude in ones own home with people that a person did not know so well (such as in a shared flat or a students residence)?

4 - Is it acceptable to get dressed (while in the process becoming completely nude) in front of a member of the opposite sex, even if the person did not know them so well.

Thanks

1) It's not more acceptable in Germany than in most of Northern Europe.

2) Only in certain situations.

In public, nudity is acceptable when swimming "wild" in waters such as lakes and rivers. Not however on (most) controlled beaches and swimming pools. Nudity is mandatory in saunas.

In the house it is only acceptable for a short while, eg. after waking up or on the way to the shower. People don't run around the house naked when they have guests, but if they happen to be seen naked for a few seconds they are not going to make a scandal of it.

Pajamas are just as common as anywhere else.

3) Younger people of the same gender don't have a problem with it, as long as you don't walk around naked all the time. For example, it's quite common for people to get dressed in front of their friends or flatmates. It's also common for people to leave the door to their bedroom open while they are getting dressed, or to walk from the bedroom to the shower naked.

4) Some women will have a problem with this in the house, some won't. In the situations described above (wild swimming and saunas) it is perfectly acceptable.

1) In public communication, nudity is not a problem, unless it's clearly in a pornographic or violent context, and contains only adults.
2) There are some contexts where nudity is acceptable, and even encouraged, in particular in saunas. Walking around naked in the streets for no apparent reason may still get you a misdemeanor charge for scandalization, however.
3) Not for extended amounts of time, no. But there probably won't be any neurotic fits, even if somebody accidentally sees you full-frontal.
4) See 3).
