Very demanding job... my brothers are all police officers and this has caused strain on their relationships. But I've been lucky enough to have been surrounded by very good-hearted people in law enforcement. So, not sure if that answers your question.
EDIT: C G, what do you mean? Law Enforcement Officers are very different from other men. They put their lives on the line everyday, they see horrific things that most men only see in the movies, and they have to deal with it on a personal level. That was a very naive thing to say.

My husband is a cop. He's aggressive and no-nonsense. I find his work schedule the worst part of the relationship. I also feel like he thinks everyone is a criminal - thinking the worst of most people. I've convinced myself that it's because he's surrounded by it all of the time- and is constantly on the look-out for the bad guy.
But, he's loyal, confident, tidy, and walks the straight and narrow. He's got a crappy temper -- but that's more a personality issue and less a job issue.

They are people just like everyone else. There are bad ones and there are great ones. Police do have a tendancy to want to "control" the situation. While fire fighters are more "helpful" people, police can be be (CAN) be more confrontational. That is their training.

My brother is a police officer and my sister in law told me that he saw her car on the road and pulled her over. He pretended that he was really pulling her over and he didn't know who she was and she said it was exciting.
