Suppose 9/11 happened while Rudy was in another city or 9/11 happened when he wasn't mayor of NYC or another city was attacked instead. What effect does this happen to Rudy's presidential campaign? Would he still be a top tier candidate? Would he even be a running presidential candidate for 2008?

He was nothing but a fraud before. Hasn't changed.

He only became 'America's (so-called) Mayor' after 9-11; What does that tell you-? Before that, He was just another womanizing mediocre administrator whose consitutents were anxiously awaiting the end of his term. The people of New York City still express their preference for either Clinton or Bloomberg over Rudy - He must not have not been smashing at his job. He just knew how to pose for the cameras on a very tragic day; And ever since that day, His party has wanted to con America into believing only they take preventing another such tragedy seriously; So he is the perfect face for that attempt to manipulate the electorate. ANY Mayor - Even of the nation's largest city - would otherwise not be taken seriously as a candidate. Just running one city does not begin prepare begin to prepare you for the Presidency - The scale of the job is so much bigger. Prior Presidents have almost always been Governors or in Congress.

While on the subject; Just as useful a question would be, Where would George W. Bush be without 9-11? He'd had to steal his first election and his approval rating the day prior to the attacks was under 50%. And that was before the recession deepened and he spent America into ridiculous debt. Had he not successfully manipulated the 'War-time President/Rally around the flag' sentiment after the tragedy so well; It's a pretty good bet he would've been sent back to Austin on the first train by the voters when his first term was up, too...

It brought him to more people's attention. But he really was a very effective mayor of NYC, the change in the crime rate and the other good things that happened really to speak to his ability to get things done. He and Romney about the only two candidates that have actually run anything. The others mostly move words around the room for a living (Senators get paid to talk, not do).

Pampering his wife and taking phone calls from her during interviews and press conferences. I dislike his wife more than him and in the end I feel that is why he will have no chance in winning. She is extremely prissy and stuck up. She grew up in the same town I did and believe me its nothing to rag home about. I mean do we want a first lady who needs an extra seat on a plane just for her purse!! Not me, 9/11 or not, I'm not voting for him. To answer your question, people put him on a pedestal for what happened on 9/11, just like they did Bush and I'm a Republican!!

Dale B: Its people like you that ruin the country, you vote for people just because they were a mayor of NYC. NYC IS NOT the greatest city nor was Rudy the greatest mayor.

Absolutely nowhere. I personally think he is cashing in on his celebrity status (because of 9/11) in using it to run for President.

Even the idea that someone could manipulate such a horrible event for his own personal gain disgusts me. His is a campaign I simply will not support.

Rudy was a class act leader pre-9/11
No one else could have cleaned up NYC better than him - Not even close.
9/11 and the terrible days that followed gave him the opportunity (however tragic) to prove what a strong leader he is.

Where would Hillary be without Bill?
But you question is irrelevant since 9/11 did happen and it allowed us to see what a true leader Rudy Giuliani really is.

Go Rudy!
