OK. I go to a community college, and there are quite a lot of Chinese instructors in my school. Most of the classes they teach are very hard because they deliberately make the life harder. Their attitudes are like "you can't pass my class easily." Is it because the culture or political system that they grew up in made them work hard?

ok I had asked my hubby, who took martial arts from an Asian man, and he told me this: Perfection is their way of life, They believe if you can't be perfect at what you do, and master it, then why bother to do so? WEll, They send their people here to America to study, then go home to practice their trade, because to be able to say they went to school here in America, is somewhat of a status symbol. To say they teach here is somewhat beneath them, so they feel they have to make ti harder so ppl won't take advantage of them.

Asian cultures have a bigger sense of work ethic than American culture. Schools in Japan and China are VERY tough, and its not unusual when a kid over there commits suicide because of stress from their exams and such. That's not to say that Americans don't have expectations of their kids, but in Asia its a lot harder.
