Against. I am a woman, and I don't want to be hired for a job I can't do, just to fulfill a quota, knowing that I'll be not able to do the job and lose it anyway. I want the job because I'm the best candidate. And, I cannot stand the idea that someone would think of me, that "she just got the job b/c she's a chick."

It depends....
If they deserve the job, or are just as qualified for it as a white person than yeah. I agree. Give them a chance because nothing should be based on colour any more.
However if someone completely under qualified is going to get a job simply BECAUSE they are coloured than how is it any better then the oppression of the past?

Added note* The reason why there is still prejudice in the US is because there hasn't been any change. All stereotypes are based on some truth right? Well if owned a business and coloured people only ever stole from you why would you keep hiring coloured people? I'm not saying that this is true or that all coloured people steal or anything like that...but still

Against. Because of it, people will doubt your ability. There's the idea that you wouldn't be where you are without affirmative action.

against... deserving people should get jobs...

but at the same time... companies will have to realize that race related issues in the work place become magnified because of this... and if they are willing to take these risks then it would be the safest way to go....

other than that i think the rule is : for every 2 whites... we can add a black - yellow - and a couple gays... right?

I think that it could be safely dropped now. We may need to continue to monitor statistics, but I think most companies are behind hiring the best canidate for the job and don't discriminate.

I'm for it, but only under careful circumstances. If it used to correct an obvious injustice it is a good thing, when it wanders into reverse racism and quotas, it is a bad thing.

for it

descrimination and prejudice is alive and well still in the US

when the playing field is truly level then there will be no need for it

it might take another 100 years

having a black president might make it happen a little faster

Against.
Private employers should be able to hire, and private universities able to admit whoever they want for whatever reason without justification, full stop.
