Exactly I don't understand this next generation. The world is dumping all over the next generation and no one is politically active. You need to know what you want and know how to obtain it within the articles of the constitution. Yet no one even understands how the voting procedures work. Of course the government has become lame and corrupt and most persons feel they can do nothing to make changes in this world. There is many persons and only a small percentage of government personnel so you need to write your representatives. Get a permit to march and make your desires known. Educate yourselfves on political procedures and change what needs to be changed. A petition is another way to be absolutely recognized in matters of importance. Stop the apathy of the people and you will see the government start to take positions that represent your points of views. Taser this!!!!!

Having been in the military for 20 years and having held a TS clearance for most of that time, I'm highly aware of what the government can do. It can be disturbing to truly understand the power we've given the government and I've always said that we have to question our elected officials' motives and insist that the government is as transparent as possible without breaching our national security.

I don't say to fear the government but be aware of what's going on inside the government that will effect you. Take your stand for or against issues but take a stand! Like the saying says, "If you don't take a stand for something, you'll fall for anything."

Easy, people fear the government because they aren't involved. It is a scary thing when you don't know or care about it. People always fear what they don't understand. I think most Americans need to get more informed and get educated about a wide range of things dealing with ouor country. politics, current events, laws, health care, etc.

I see your point but ever heard the expressions that "big brother" is watching/listening? We are a well recognized super power(if you will) and as Americans we know our governments' strengths as well as weakenesses. Ever read "A Civil Disobedience" a short essay by Henry David Thoreau? Dude! Read it.......he wrote it while in jail & he basically says that it is not just our RIGHT but our DUTY to question our government.........now you know why he was in jail!!! And I do believe that was in the late 18th or early 19th century; so there's proof why people fear our government, you never know what theives, crooks, and felons are capable of.

I agree. But to most people the Government is something of a mystery. It's just made up of mostly regular people. Also, all the movies make it out to be some big monster machine, but the government does what it is told by laws and regulations, set by Congress and signed by the President.

This is a GREAT question!!! It simply points out the fact that our elected officials in recent years think they are "in charge" of the public and that we are their "subordinates".

Actually, it's the other way around. It is us, the people, that give the elected officials their jobs and it is us that can take them away. Why the politicians forget this, I have no idea.

I don't know any reason to fear the government except for its ineptitude. The government is afraid we'll be too nosy and find out what they're screwing up on and fortunately for them, we oblige

Because the government has the power to destroy/end your life, while the people fail to realize they are the majority and could easily unite against their government.

Government owns the handcuffs, the courts, the jails, the power to seize property and assets. What do they have to be afraid of in return?
