bmcr-i dont really understand what you talking about sounds very biased to me ,Also the romans called it palestine seems to me you have a problem with palestine i state palestine ,when are you going to realise that it does exist and that the palestinians were willing to share there land with the jews.Things have got out of hand now and most of the land is occupied by israel and most palestinians are in refugee camps with no eletric and water, because the israelis cut it off .Some of the conditions they live in are similar to a concentration camp many people have said this

I do remember when the "state" of Israel was not on the map and the Middle East was a far better and far more peaceful place. That in itself must say something.

I agree with you.Israel should not have been put where it now is.That land should ideally be Palestinian.

The reason it exists is that after WW2 everyone naturally felt very sorry for the Jew's and thought 'let's give them their own country'.Fine but they should have asked the people who already lived there and then made the Jewish people stick to the original borders.

Instead you have an Israel that is ruled by psycho's who have the 'Jew's will never be victims again' mindset and who therefore treat the Palestinians in a way not that unlike how the Nazi's treated them just before the genocide started-special camps for Palestinians, not being allowed to mix with Israeli's,thousands imprisoned for stupid made up crimes and thousands more shot by their military every year.Oh yes and constantly stealing more and more land.

Sadly I don't see that changing unless the Israeli people decide to elect some sane leaders for a change or a miracle happens and the USA stop protecting them and they are forcefully put in their place by their Arab neighbours.

Israel does exist now though so for there to be peace Israel will need to surrender a large part of it's land to create a fully independent Palestinian nation.

And will people please stop saying that people are anti-Semitic if they criticise Israel.Loads of Jewish people are great. But as it is Israel as a country sucks and is a barrier to world peace.

You said the word "does" not "did". In other words, you are saying that some people are saying that Palestine does not exist in the present. And that is correct. Palestine does not exist in the present. What is on maps before 1948 is immaterial since now is not 1948.

Perhaps you really meant to criticize those who say that Palestine never existed.

Well, guess what? When people say that Palestine never existed, they mean, there was never an independent state of Palestine. There was, of course, a British colony called Palestine and earlier, a territory that belonged to the Ottoman Empire. But there never was a Palestine in the sense that some current elements try to portray it.
Since 1948, since the British colony of Palestine ceased to exist, maps since then which show Israel, Jordan, and Egypt are precisely correct.

Whether you actually like Israel being there is immaterial as well. The fact of the matter is that it does exist. It is the denial of this reality by Arabs that prohibits peace there.

I can't recall the name of the person who said Israel is a barrier to world peace.
But I would ask them to bear in mind how many Israeli's are known terrorists.
People are the barrier to world peace. people use Israel as an excuse for terrorism, for which there is no excuse.
Israel is smaller than Wales. Anyone who begrudges the Jewish people for having such a small homeland are small minded.
It does not matter about maps. This was what was offered the Jewish people after the war, which I presume most people on here feel was one of the worst things ever to happen to humanity as are all wars.
It is stupid pettiness regarding the fact that people have a small piece of land.
Yes we pity those who lost their homes, but they left Palestine by choice. Read the history books.
Even better go back to the Bible.

The reason there is no pre-1948 map with Israel on, is that it did not exist. Nor did any other state in Palestine.

When the British decided that they could not cope with the conflict between Jews & Arabs, the matter was referred back to the UN, who partitioned the territory.

When the British hauled down the flag, Israel promptly declared independence, set up their own state & have prospered ever since. The Arabs did not do so, made war onI Israel unsuccessfully, and have been moaning ever since.

The league of nations thinking that 'creating' a home for the Jewish people would be a great idea. Perhaps if they'd decided to create it slap bang in the middle of UK or USA and then it might have been different.

I'm not even going to comment further because the whole situation for the Palestinian people makes me so sad.

Or, every one deserves to live in that land.

Yes, Israel has done very inhuman things, but so have the Palestinians. Israel was there long before the Palestinians were...however, Israel needs to treat the Palestinians like humans...and the Palestinians need to treat the Israelis like humans.

Well it would really depend on how I am about to die. If I am about to be murdered or if it's sudden I would ask for 5 minutes to think about my life, the people in my life, and I would prey. If it's another way and I have a good amount of time I would talk to the people I love and see them one last time.

Find me a map that goes back 4,000 years when the land was originally called Israel for the Jews who lived there and I'll tell you.
You have not argued aything new here, you know.
Palestine was:
1) A name given by Roman rulers (Emperor Hadrian) around 135 BCE to the land formerly known to Rome as Judea, and known to Jews who had lived there as Israel. This really was an attempt to cut the Jews off from their land and to wipe awya thier identity with it. Actually, Israel was at that time under a joint rule with the governor of Syria, another Roman province, so the whole area was referred to as "Syria Palestina." Go back to old Roman coins that celebrated the destruction and conquest of Jerusalem in 70 CE, and you will find that these coins bear the maxim, "Judea Capta", or "Judea conquered".
2) Palestine was never connected to the people called Philistines, whom Palestinians attempt to claim kinship with. Philistines settled in the Gaza Strip area around the same time a Jewish Kingdom under Saul flourished in Israel. Furthermore, Philistines were not Arabs. Arabs, along with Jews, are Semites. Philistines were an Indo-European race who migrated to Levant coast from the Aegean island of Crete (off the Greek mainland). Formerly, they were known as the "Sea peoples". Seeing as all Arabs originated in the Arabian Peninsula (area of the Gulf States), and did not leave this region until Islam came about in 622 CE, Arabs have no relation with Philistines.
3) Palestine is just a name for Israel. An old name, albeit (although). Same way as Siam is an old name for Thailand, or Persia is an old name for Iran. Israel acquired many names over the millenia, such as Canaan, Israel, Judah, Judea, Palestine, and Israel again.
4) There never was an independent nation called "Palestine", and never was it governed by Arabs, who claim lost it. Contrary to this, Israel did exist several times as an independent nation run by Jews, the inhabitants of the land. Furthermore, Arabs were never referred to as "Palestinians" before 1967. Pre-1948, all Palestinians were Jews, Arabs were simply referred to as "Arabs." Arabs started calling themselves Palestinias post-1967 as a bargaining chip in their political aims. By the way, Jews always referred to themselves as Israelis, the name "Palestinian" was hated by Jews for its dark connotation related to the Roman occupation.
5) Simply put, Jerusalem and all the land of Israel is solidly Jewish. Jews have continuously lived in the land for 4,000 years, with Muslims only arriving roughly 1300 years ago, and settling, I might add, in quite sparse numbers in the area. Contrary to what anti-semites will tell you, the region was never devoid of Jews, during any time period in history, proof of the Jewish will to stubbornly hold on to their rightful land and heritage. Jerusalem in addition, always had a Jewish majority, even in times during history when the City was ruled by Christians or Muslims. Mark Twain in the 1800's on his trip to Jerusalem remarked that, "the land is inhabited mostly by Jews with a few Arab nomads." Jerusalem was in fact expanded on and really re-built by Jews. When they conquered it from a Biblical people called the Jebusites, it had been nothing more than a small walled fort-town. The Jews were the ones to expand it, building streets, apartment complexes, palaces, and Temples. Under the Dome of the Rock are the remains of 2, much more ancient, Jewish Temples. And in an archaeological sense, if you pick apart all of Jerusalems layers (strata) of artifacts, you will find the Jewish ones predate the Christian and Islamic ones by several thousand years.
6) In a religious sense, why isn't Jerusalem or the whole land of Israel for that matter, mentioned much in Christian and Muslim writings? Jerusalem's name is mentioned over 632 times daily in Jewish prayer and prayers mentioning Jerusalem and Israel are quite common. Why had the Muslims not made Jerusalem their capital city when they were in control of it?

I'm sorry, but with all due respect, you have proven nothing new. Good day to you sir.

You defy me? Then you shall be promptly reported...
