Well, I posted a question about using the name Garrett for a girl, and got alot of the same kind of responses.... actually yours don't seem as brutal. I've always liked boys names for girl, and it kind of reminds me of the Judy Blume book I read when I was a teenager "Tiger Eyes"... remember the girl's name was Davis? She was called Davey, which I hated since I don't like nicknames, but still.... and think about the actresses Glenn Close and Glenne Headley! (another name I prefer for a girl)

I think it doesn't work as a girl's given name.
The female version - Davina - is a great choice. I could imagine naming a daughter Davis.
But naming a girl David is the equivalent of naming a boy Sue - setting up your kid for a lifetime of "no, no, I'm a she."
As a middle name, you could certainly use it, as long as her first name was obviously feminine. So Madeline David, yes. Madison David, probably not.

Think of it this way. How would you have dealt with it if YOUR name was David growing up? Think about the kids in your grade school and junior high. How would those kids react to a girl named David? Then ask if that's what your daughter should experience. It's ultimately up to you, but your daughter is the one who will live with it for the rest of her life.

No...unless you can counter it with a super feminin middle name...or maybe use David as a middle name. It would be so embarassing for her to constantly have to correct letters addressed to Mr.David ____. Kids are not forgiving at all...it really makes her a target for teasing.
If you're really keen on David, reserve it for a middle name, Anne David ____, is kind of cute, or Emily David _____...

Some boy names are cute on girls, like Jonni or Dani. But David is very masculine sounding.
I'd worry that people would ask her if she had a sex change, or was a lesbian (not that theres anything wrong with those things, but it COULD be insulting)

Derinately not. David is a boy's name.
You could try:
Davina
That's kinda interesting and definately not common.

I actually think that's a cool name for a girl, pretty neat, never heard of it for a girl. I think that despite what others think, you should go with it if you like it. I certainly think it's a wonderful change from the names I'm hearing for girls these days!! Well done!!!!

It's sounds like you were really, really disappointed in the lack of a Y chromosome.
Try Davita.

Horrid.
I don't like it on a boy either if that makes you feel any better.
I love unisex names, but Daivd is way to masculine.
