It's easy to say I hate gay people and not say Oh John is gay but he has a job, contributes to society and is polite to people he meets. On the other hand Joe is straight, can't seem to find steady work, hangs around bars and gets into fights.
That doesn't represent all gay or straight people the point is people will put sexual orientation above all the person other quality’s good or bad because their books, parents, friends tell them too.

its because people generally fear what they dont understand the most--and what they fear, they end up hating sometimes.
some religions have put it into many generations heads that it is wrong to be gay and that it is the worst thing you can be, but in ancient times, homosexuality was not an issue untill religion made it into one. America is largely a christian country, and the christian religion (not everyone in it of course)
is against homosexuality and only sees it as a sin, like murder.
The way to expand acceptance and understanding, is through knowledge.

Society always need an expiatory goat. Since the mythology Jude-Christian controls the mind of most of our society, homosexuality has been the ideal cause to condemn.
