It seems the Eastern ones are only about half the size of their Western cousins. They have black tips on their tails and ears and look a bit like a large puffy red fox. Also they have a different "regional dialect."

I used to live in the Sierra foothills and the Western coyote is probably twice the size of the Eastern one. They are the size of a medium dog. We had an Australian Shepherd then and she was the same size as a Western coyote. I've only seen an Eastern one twice, but those were only slightly larger than a fox.
