TN has good response time, but poor viewing angles and generally bad gray scale tracking (even steps between levels of gray) and colour (same colour for levels of gray), generally mediocre contrast ratio. Viewing angle can be improved with a prism film gray scale tracking and colour could be corrected, but generally is not. Contrast ratio you are stuck with.

The alternatives out there are IPS (In Plane Switching) and a variety of vertical alignment options (there are several different varieties depending on the company and what patents they have)

These have much better viewing angles, contrast ratio, and generally much better gray scale tracking. Switching time can be improved for gray to gray transitions by overdriving the LCD material for a single frame.

These tend to be the premium panels, so they may have better (more saturated) colour filters too.

Whats a TN monitor?

Well I like the ViewSonic LCD monitors I own 2.
Hans G isn't so bad either. Dell, Acer, and AOC aren't bad too.
