My teacher says it is Famous or important....is it and why?

The prologue is important because it foreshadows the ending- that the "star-crossed" lovers won't survive.

It sets the the scene of the entire play as well as foreshadowing what will come and telling the playgoer/reader to basically beware of grudges like these two families hold and what the consequences of such a feud will inevitably be.

It sets up the story so that the audience knows what's going to happen. Basically it summarizes the entire play in a way that highlights the main idea (parents' feud results in their children's deaths).
