Final Fantasy VII (7) is considered one of the best RPGs ever. It's not my favorite Final Fantasy, but it's a very good game. FFX (10) is my favorite in the series, followed by FFVI (6).

Original version of Final Fantasy VII are the best storyline ever, also have a good battle system and materia system (my opinion), but the graphical setting still poor ( consider for the first full 3D Final Fantasy series)
but the sequel of it (like Final Fantasy Advent Children and Final Fantasy Dirge of cerberus isn't much good as the original one.
But i think prequel of it (Final Fantasy VII crisis core have a good storyline also.
Well it's up to you to rate it good or not

I personally can't stand it; chucked the discs out the window after 20 minutes.
That said, most people worship it as one of the best RPGs ever made, so chances are you'll like it.
I'd rather play Chrono Trigger or Skies of Arcadia, or any of the SNES Final Fantasy games.

final fantasy 7 is an amazing game, the most popular final fantasy game and one of the best games I've ever played, so to answer your question, yes it is good.

The story is convoluted and falls apart, just like in most other FF games. But a lot of people like it.
