By definition, backfire is unspent fuel being ignited in the exhaust system AFTER it has gone unburned in the cylinder. If you are having that happen AND the bike is not wanting to start and run, I would only speculate that you are getting far more fuel into the combustion chamber than it can deal with. You may have a stuck choke system, or other carb. problem, don't know the bike at all, but it sounds like something that can be fixed without a lot of trouble.

I have never heard of a susiki kattana 600. I have heard of a Suzuki 600 Katana.

Timing/cam chain issues.

Valve issues.

Fuel issues.

Spark plug issues.

Start with the fuel and spark plugs first since they are easiest and cheapest.
