Applying is usually required before you can go. You don't want to just show up for the first day of college without applying and being accepted first.

Now, if you mean is it important to go to college - yes and no. Everyone isn't cut out for college and encouraging those who aren't cut out for it to go is just setting them up to fail.

I know, people are going to say "everyone should be able to go to college..." but reality is that some people just aren't up to it. Failing out of college is a terrible waste of money. So, reality is, everyone shouldn't apply to college. Only those people who are motivated enough to be successful there.

If the career you want requires a college degree... Then yeah, applying to college is kind of important.

Otherwise, technical school or vocational training may well be more suitable. Especially if you don't WANT to go to college - that influences how well you're going to do there, in my experience.

of course. In today's society, very few people can get far without at least some college. Yes, there are people who don't go to college and make more than many college grads...but that is like, 1 out of a million...

totally depends on your future ambitions. Plumbing or Electrical work does not require college so trades are one place college doesnt figure.

people who go to college make $500,000 more during their lifetime than people who don't.

if taken in mind that your alternative option is "would you like fries with that?", yes i'd say it's important.
