Do NOT use silicone on vinyl... all the manufacturers Ive worked with state that no petroleum or silicone products should be used on vinyl.

Instead, they recommend that you use a wax product. I carry a can of spray wax for furniture (no oil in it, only wax) to lubricate vinyl windows and doors. Gulf wax (little slabs of paraffin wax, Gulf is the brand name) works well too. Rub the solid wax, or spray the canned stuff, onto the tracks on the sides of the window. If it squeaks as it passes the lip at the bottom, then a little wax on the edge of the sash will help there.

Good Luck

Vinyl windows are made from un-plasticised PVC, so can be squeaky if the fit is tight. Spray with a silicone lubricating aerosol where the noise is. If the noise is from the hinge, the silicone will also help here. It will not degrade the PVC.
