okay. so i've recently decided to consider the option of birth control. i'm only 16 and i'm sexually active with my boyfriend my mom suggested contraceptive implants rather than pills due to my forgetfulness and we both know i won't remember to take them regularly. so i need suggestions.

monthly pill?
implants?
daily pill?

please help. thanks alot.

Personally, I loved the Depo Provera shot. You get a shot every 3 months and the best thing is that after a couple of shots I didn't have a period anymore. Ahhh, bliss - 5 years without a period. Don't forget, you still need to use a condom to protect yourself from STDs.

I also liked the Nuvo Ring. Put it in once a month.

Don't forget, use of these hormone based BCs for more than 5-7 years increases the incidence of breast cancer. You're only 16, that means you can only use them until you are 21-23 years old. Do you want to start that already?

I would consider an injection, something like Depo-Provera. It's a shot every 3 months. You don't have to remember to take a pill every day, and you don't have the risk associated with implants. Each shot is around $60, and some health insurances will cover the cost. If cost is an issue, Planned Parenthood and your local Health Department often have lower rates.

seeing that you won't remember a daily medication, the daily "pill" is out. that leaves IUD and monthly pills. IUD- normally it's "placed" once and usually non-problematic. most common side effects are early "discomfort," heavier periods and poss. spotting in the first couple months, sometimes more frequent bladder infections (UTI's), VERY rarely do any permanent effects occur. - Monthly pills- this would seem to be the best, in my opinion. if you forget a day it won't really matter the way it would with the daily pill. also, the side effects are quite the opposite from the IUD's. if you can handle lighter and sometimes NO period at all, then the monthly meds are for you. check with the DR, of course, aside from yourself he or she probably knows you best.

The implants in your arm can go horribly wrong and my daughter could tell you the hell it put her through. the daily pill is not good if you forget a lot . I would consider the nuvaring or an IUD if i were you. Mirena has a good one that in some cases you will have no period or a very light one.

it is good that you have acquired your responsibility on the birthrate, although as your reproductive device it even is not mature to 100 %, the best thing would be that you were with a medical adviser, he already will advise you a better method, the most advisable for you, it would be the DIU of copper, it has an index of good perl, which indicates less numbers of pregnancies, the only thing that you would have to see it is if your womb tolerates it, since this one does not have side effects (increase of weight, in the long run hipetensión,..)

If you are already aware that you are a forgetful person, then go with something that is longer acting, like a depo shot. (depoprovera) If you constantly forget to take a daily pilll, you can actually increase your chance of getting pregnant.
