Okay. Good question. Dirty is the bath tub ring. Dirty is when you shake the rug out on the back steps and what flies out into the air. Dirty is when your clothes will stand up all on their own. Dirty is the mud you leave from your wet boots on the rug before it turns into powder and becomes invisible because it has dried.

Messy is a broken dish of hot spaghetti and meatballs on the kitchen floor. Messy is when the plastic garbage bag breaks at the top of the stairs on trash day. Messy is when you promise someone you will be somewhere, and you completely forget it.

Messy is all about the stuff that just doesn't get put away where it should be when it should. That means sorting, tossing, or filing constantly and having the backing of the entire family to do it. Filthy means that cleaning isn't being done. Cleaning means bleaching, polishing, dusting, washing, keeping trash outside and in general keeping bathrooms and all shared space bacteria free. Things may pile up in a family if you don't keep up, but dirt is dirt and it's a different animal.

Try keeping an eye on "hot spots" in your home. For me it's the kitchen island. Everyone comes in and drops their "stuff" in the kitchen. That's messy! Be firm and make sure everyone stows away their stuff. Take care of the little stuff before it becomes overwhelming. Dirty is when the dog has an accident and no one will clean it up...................you are definitely not dirty! Just don't let things pile and up and get ahead of you..............then it will be smooth sailing. And, don't be a martyr. Assign age appropriate tasks to all family members.

Messy is things that need to be TIDIED up.

Dirty is things that need to be CLEANED up.

Messy things lead onto dirty things.

When you leave something MESSY for too long, it will turn into something DIRTY.

Its easier to tidy something than to clean something. So dont let messy thing get out of hand and turn dirty.

Your house is messy. Messy is magazines and newspapers spread out along with dog toys and shoes kicked off when you walked in the door. Dirty is dishes piled in the sink, grimy toilets and dust an inch thick on the TV screen.

My opinion is a dirty house smells from lack of cleaning, not washing dishes, cleaning bathrooms, trash not taken out and so on. Messy is the kids leaving their toys in the living room. Your sewing project on the kitchen table and your husbands golf clubs in the entry way. You sound like you have a clean house that gets somewhat cluttered by the end of the day.

Dirty contains dirt or germs. Messy is just disorganized. If your house is clean, but you just have everything all over the place, that's messy. But if you have trash lying around, old food, or stains or dirt around, then that's dirty.

Your house is messy, not dirty.

I know people whose houses have nothing out of place, but hasn't seen a duster or damp cloth on a work-surface for years. *That* is dirty.

This is messy. Dirty would be grime, rodents, pests, and floors that resemble shelves. I sympathize for you, it seems that no matter how much I clean, it just ends up messy and disorganized again!
