I've heard that we shouldn't reuse the idol. Is that true?

Ganesh and other Gods or Goddesses idols are supposed to be made by clay only and they used to get dissolved when immersed in water bodies like lakes, tanks or sea, but of late the idols are made of Plaster of Paris and Plaster Of Paris does not get dissolved or disintegrated fast. Moreover, the chemical dyes and colors being used to color the idols contain poisonous elements posing a great danger for water creatures and polluting water with potential causes of developing cancer.

Idols are not to be reused and they should be immersed in the specified number of days. -
