one i can think of is make "ghost hangers" to hang in the tree for decoration. Just use a wire clothes hanger-

put a string on the "hook " part of the hanger to tie it up later

wad some newspaper to make the ghost's head where the hook is. ( may need tape to hold on temporaraily)

use some squares of an old white sheet ( you will have to figure out how big for the hanger)

poke a hold for the string to come thru on top of the "head" in the sheet
put a rubber band or string to tie the sheet around the neck
draw a scary face on the ghost and bend the arms for shape.

you could also make black ones for "bats" if you could shape the wings right.

thats all i can think of for now. the girls should be able to do just fine. make a sample. GL

Blow up balloons and stuff them into white pillowcases. Tie a string around the open end of the pillowcase. Push the balloon up to where the string is tied, and gather together the excess pillowcase below the balloon to form a "neck". Tie string or use a twist tie here. Hang from a tree by the string above the balloon. Quick ghosts!

Most materials for Halloween can be easily found in your own home! If anyone in your family have old, spray-shotted shirts (with lots of holes in it), maybe you can think of something to use it for a ghost or zombie. Crumple old newspapers into balls and paint them white or light blue for that scary-dead feel to it. That would make the head. For hair, you might something in your basement or backyard for something that resembles your choice design. As for the torso, you can still crumple more newspapers and paste/tape them together. You can attached rolled, crumple-y arms but make an effort for the joints. I know I sound crazy with my suggestions but I also see what I'm saying in my mind. Maybe your kids have poster paints from their art class that you can use? It'll be more difficult to suggest other alternatives like making your own colors! Make one whole zombie first before you dress it. But if that's not your thing, then paint old boards black to make bats out of them. What's in your home can be made into almost-free decors for Halloween. All it takes is imagination and that creative desire to do them. For 10-yr olds, anything can be done as simple as can be. Hang that zombie or paste a witch on a wall. Ideas for this holiday is endless. Help your kid(s) when making whatever you have in mind, for quicker results. :)

Take a Tootsie Roll Pop (or similarly-shaped lollipop) and one white facial tissue. Center the top of the pop on the tissue. Use a piece of colored yarn or ribbon and tie the tissue neatly under the pop. Very lightly dot on eyes with a marker. These make fun treats.

You can make gumdrop spiders, too. Take large black gumdrops and long thin black licorice laces. Cut 3" lengths of the laces, and poke eight of them into the sides of each gumdrop. These are cute as party favors or on a cake or on cupcakes.
