No.
The right of individuals to bear arms is clearly spelled out in the Second Amendment to The Constitution.
The Second Amendment is one amendment of the Bill of Rights, which were 10 things specifically spelled out by the Founding Fathers as rights that people have AGAINST GOVERNMENT INTRUSION.
Many scholars have illegitimately tried to say that the Second Amendment is different from the other nine in the Bill of Rights, that the Second Amendment is designed to give power to the government, not the individual.
Their claim is not only without merit, it is an attempt to twist the meaning and subvert the law. These people do so because they are against gun ownership, and want to force their will on the rest of society.

This could apply to other countries, not just the US and until exactly one week ago I would have been in agreement on banning personal handguns. However seven days ago I was mugged by a couple of professional crooks who put a stranglehold on me until I lost consciousness. It´s not an experience that I recommend for anyone and I have asked a friend of mine to buy a gun for me. I do think that gun users should be licensed and have to take a psychological test to weed out the crazies.

If you check out crime statistics in places where private gun ownership is already banned, you will find that some people are still killed each year from gunshot wounds.
If gun ownership in those places is illegal, then who is doing the shooting, hm?
Banning guns because "they kill people" is ridiculous. Carry that logic a little further: automobiles kill more people than guns, so shouldn't cars be banned in an effort to keep us safe?

My only source is my gut feeling and life experience. I dont believe we will ever be able to get all the handguns away from people so banning will not work.

The Right of United States Citizens to own firearms is protected by the Second Amendment of our Constitution.
What if the government decided to take that Right away?
Which Rights will they decide to trample on next?
You might not care about your Right to Bear Arms, but you probably care about some of your other Rights. So you should do your part to preserve and protect ALL of the rights that are afforded to you by our Constitution! Because if they take one Right away, they'll probably start chipping away at another.
And the Right to Bear Arms is the ONLY part of our Constitution that gives the American people the Power to protect the rest of their (OUR!) rights from the abusive powers of those that would rob us of our liberties!
It is written in our Declaration of Independence that,in the course of human events,it becomes....(I'm paraphrasing now)
neccesary to for a free people to make change (by force if need be) in any government that would grow out of control, and rob the people of their freedoms,or tax them unfairly.
OK...Constitutional arguments aside...lets talk about crime.
Don't believe everything you see or hear in the liberal media.
Guns are used in this country many times more to prevent crimes and assaults than they are used in the commission of crimes. But Ted Turner and Hillary Clinton will never cite statistics like that.
Let's also realize that gun laws are only obeyed by law abiding citizens.Criminals will continue to get guns.
All these headlines that say "Gun Crimes In DC Can Be Traced To Gun Shops In Virginia"...well DUH! They don't sell guns in DC! So criminals in DC buy their guns from criminals that burglarize the homes in jurisdictions that DO allow guns.
MY guns have been stolen! I only wish that I was home at the time they broke in! That would've resulted in two less guns on the street, and two less criminals alive to terrorize the neighborhood!
Should gun ownership be banned?
What neighborhood do YOU live in?

If you ban handguns then the only ones who have them will be the ones who don't follow the law...or do you think that it will effectively keep them out of the hands of people who want them despite the law? Like prohibition worked for alcohol or how the marijuana laws are working now, can't find that anywhere!

No Look at what happened when the government tried to ban alcohol and look at the war on drugs. All you would have is another law on the books and the wrong people would still have the guns.

No. If everyone had a handgun, do you think crime would be so prevalent? Do you think the VA Tech thing would have happened?
I think private ownership of handguns should be a requirement.

Nope, I am an avid hunter and taking away the right to own guns is like taking away a favorite past time of mine. I am a responsible gun handler and I never even let any of my guns be seen in public unless I am hunting.
By the way the 2nd amendment does NOT protect the right for an individual to own a weapon. It is the right for an individual in a well organized militia to own and carry a weapon. The supreme court is still in deliberation about this topic. Of course this is just a technicality I am sure they will overlook.

No it is not reasonable to take away one persons right becuase people who will not obey the law in the 1st place so banning handguns will only affect those who obey the law in the 1st place making no difference in crime stats.
