I was around in the 1980s so I might be able to help. I don't know if he actually disliked the group or not. I think he was making a commentary about the phony nostalgia craze that surrounded the group at the time. There were movies and musicals made about them. I saw a show called "Beatlemania" in 1979. It was billed as not being the real group but an incredible simulation. All it was was four musicians who had been hired to play the group's songs and dress like them through various stages of their career. I remember that there were a lot of howls about the musician hired to play Paul McCartney. He wasn't playing left-handed like Paul did.
