I'm considering hearing aids and I was wondering what the whole experience is like. Tell me everything from the test to actually wearing them and hearing with them. How did people react when you first got them? How do you talk on the phone? Thanks!

Well I will try to get you a rundown. And go see an Audiologist about your hearing needs they are the professionals.

You take a hearing test - takes approximately 30 min. Audiologist will go over the results and let you know if you need a hearing aid and what type is good for you. There are many types and what you need depends on your hearing test. Wearing the aid is easy. Things will sound different especially your own voice. It typically takes a month or so to get used to the new way things sound and the new things you are hearing. It can be annoying to hear everything that you were missing (air conditioner, refrigerator, paper rustling etc.) but once you wear the aids and get used to them you learn to tune out those sounds and they become less annoying. Talking on the phone is fine. If you have a behind the ear aid you have to hold the phone differently more towards the top of your ear instead of the normal position so that you can hear through the hearing aid. But with an in the ear hearing aid you can use the phone normally. If you have problems using the phone with the hearing aid your audiologists will have to make some changes to the hearing aid, but you should be able to use the phone with it without any problems.

Hope this helps!
