I have a belkin N router and Belkin N USB Adaptor. The Router is in my house on the ground floor and the laptop is in my Garden Offfice, 35metres from the router. The signal strength is very weak and seems just the same as my old G router.Belkin have been unable to tell me what configuration changes I should make to maximise the range.Has anyone similar experience? Am I unrealistic in expecting it to work over this distance?

I agree with Chris
That is kind of far to go as far as the Aluim foil it might work but why not just get the correct parts for the job I would get a range extendor /Access Point so find ware the single is starting to get bad and put your Access Point right before that also see if you can by a external attena for your router like a Omi or Panel antenna that way you can bost it more that way as well Good answer Chris.

You can improve the signal strength of the USB adapter by building a reflector with aluminum foil, and then place the adapter in the focal point. I have used this at over 60 meters with good results.

35meters i think is a bit extereme you may need to consider buying a reapter if its compatible with your router or running and RJ45 network cable to the offic for max performance
