I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank that's been running for about 4 months now. Currently residing in the tank are 5 peppered corys, 2 diamond tetras, 7 black neon tetras, 1 marigold platy, 1 paradise fish, and at least one oto, there were 4 in there but they either died and ended up in the filter or just like the hide under the rock or driftwood. I was wondering if I could/should add more fish, and if so what would be some good fish to add?

Tetras are schooling fish, so your first step should be to get 5 more Diamond Tetras. After that, you might consider getting 3-4 more Otos (they enjoy schools and will be more active and exciting when kept in groups. Otos can be difficult to acclimate to new tanks, so float the bag in the tank and add 1/2 a cup of tank water every 10 minutes for an hour and a half. After this, net the Otos and let them into the tank. Platties don't school, so you don't need any more (but you could get some more if you wanted). The only issue with Platties is that when mixing sexes, you will ultimately end up with worthless fry that continue to overpopulate the tank. Stick with males and you should be in good shape. For some more active fish, I would suggest 5 Yo-yo Loaches OR 7 Dwarf Loaches. Email me if you have any questions.

EDIT: The "one inch of fish per gallon of water" "rule" is total crap and should never be used. In all situations, you will find loopholes that lead to dead, stunted fish, or massively understocked tanks.

Yes, you definitely have a lot of room for more fish. I was thinking since you have some tetras you could add some copper tetras as another addition for your collection ans maybe add some surface dwellers (i.e. Zebra Danios and Harlequin Rasboras.) As long as you take it slow on adding, then you should be fine with those fish. If you are going to add schooling fish, just add one type of school per 2 weeks or something like that and see what happens.

35 gallons are bieng used i dontr usualy go by the 1 gallon =1 inch of fish but your fish are all flat bodied so its ok get 5 more platys so they can school, and i dont know much about the diamonds but if they are the usual 2 inches then get 4 more to make a school youl see a much needed improvement in their attitude
