You are not an employee in the eyes of the government. You're like a migrant worker. They can pay you what they want. Don't like it? Don't work for her. When's the last time you saw taxes taken out of your baby sitting money?

Kansas ranks at the bottom of all states as paying the majority of their workforce approximately one-half of this rate, for a grand total of $2.65. If you are under 18 years old or are in the unfortunate position of not being covered by Federal guidelines, this is the rate that Kansas allows its employers to pay you.
You got paid $2.94 an hour which exceeds the required minimum wage for you. Your 14, be happy you got paid.

Was she paying you "under the table" because you're 14 or is it legal to be employed at the age of 14 in your state?
In my state you have to be 16 to get a job unless you're a child actor or model.
Did she pay you cash or by check? Was the check from her account or was it from the college?
I think she was fibbing to you. If 14 is too young to be employed in your state then she also broke the law by hiring you and she probably broke some of the ethics rules of the college too.
You might want to ask her if what she did was legal next time she offers you a job.

Ok. what I think. You worked 17hrs. x 6.50 =$110.50. Now take out a chunk (estimate) in taxes (unless it was tax free) say 25% that means, you subtract $27.63 and you should have received a check relativley close to the amount of: $82.87.

I think you got screwed in two ways. 1, you got screwed on the total of money you earned and i thing you got srewed that you were only allowed to make 6.50 a hour. You should have been making 8 to 10 dollars an hour.

Welcome to tax paying America. Depending on how much you make you will lose 1/3-1/2 of your income to the government. You lost more than half and that is not right.

you really got beat if she wasn't even taking taxes out. I would consider that getting paid about 2.95 an hour. I think I've actually been paid less working in my dad's resteraunt as a kid.
