My son gave me a catfish about 5-6 in. long and very long whiskers. It some what looks like a Pimelodus Pictus but has no markings on it's tail or fins, Dark silver and gray in color.
What is it?

What you have is a four-lined pimelodus, it's same family as pictus but these get a little larger. These will get around 8-9 inches, pictus get just over 4. I'll post a link for you, check it out.

EDIT: With the picture, it looks very similar to a small Channel Catfish. Be prepared to upgrade the tank or get rid of this fish as it WILL reach about 3+ feet in lenght and need a MASSIVE tank (300+ gallons).

It is probably a Colombian Shark (which is really a Catfish). They appear very similar to Pictus but have VERY different requirements. Unfortunately, this fish will reach about a foot in length, and as and adult, requires full saltwater. As a juvenile, it can be kept in freshwater, but as an adult (yours is almost an adult), it NEEDS full saltwater. Freshwater as an adult is very detrimental to its health and should be avoided at all costs.

a picture would be best!! there are many many long whiskered catfish out there, some looking very similar with only minor differences.
