How do you know if an function has an inverse?

What types of functions don't have an inverse, like square root functions, exponential functions, cubic functions, etc.

You know that, in order to be a function, a relation must have only one value of the domain(x), for any given value of the range(y). Well, if the reverse is also true, if a function has only one value of the range for any given value of the domain, it will have an inverse.

you can type inverse functions in your search bar and find many sites on them. I my self don't quite get them. I can only tell you an inverse function has to safisify its self.
