Besides being located on different continents Egypt has had a continuous civilisation while the Mesopotamian culture disappeared after the Mongols attacked in the 12th century CE.
Mesopotamia is fringed by two mountain ranges, Egypt's fertile area along the Nile is fringed by deserts.
Although the fertile crescent of Mesopotamia was watered by the Euphrates and the Tigris the irrigated land had a tendency towards high salination which staved the crops while each year the Nile 's inundation brought with it another millimetre or so of black loam rich in nutrients.
The failure of the Mesopotamian agrarian culture after the Mongols destroyed the irrigation systems and the salination problems of the land are the contributing factors why the Mesopotamian culture was not able to restore itself as Egypt did after the centuries of attack by the Hyksos expansionists.

Mesopotamia means "between the rivers" in Greek. It is the fertile land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers which is now in Iran and Iraq in western Asia.
Egypt is a nation that grew from settlements on the Nile delta and spread up the Nile using the fertile land on both sides and water from the river. The Nile delta and Egypt are in northeast Africa.
