The pot gets cleaned daily after use, but seems no matter how often or what I've tried as a cleaner, the brown stains from the coffee remain -- the lid is now so discoloured, it looks awful!!

yes it is a great idea, if you want to make it realllllly special, go to the dollar store and buy a coffee mug (or use one out of your cabinet, just be sure it does not have any cracks or chips on it), then get a couple packets of those one cup servings hot chocolates (you can buy a box of swiss miss or nestles for about a dollar - use 2 or 3 packets tucked inside the cup and you will have the other 9 or 10 leftover for yourself!!!) then use a sheet of tissue paper or some newspaper or paper towels and wrap that around the cup then stuff it into a lunch bag sized paper bag, if the bag is real plain you can decorate it with drawings of marshmallows :)

I use Scrubbing Bubbles on hubby's. If it is still stained looking then I just use bleach water.

Make sure to rinse thoroughly after using the Scrubbing Bubbles before using bleach.

As much as a hassle it is, might try to rinse it after each use or if you are to busy let it soak in some water/bleach water while you are gone until you get home.

Coffee has a greasy base to it which is why you get the build up that is so hard to clean. Wash them more regularly to keep the build up from happening or soak briefly in a CLR type substance followed by a good soapy wash and rinse. Coffee is a difficult substance.

Just soak them in some bleach water, it will only take a few minutes for the stains to disappear. Just remember to wash them completely afterward to get rid of the bleach.

Try Greaselightning... though I do not have a coffeemaker I have used it on everything else in the house and it works great.

At the restaurant I used to work at we just soaked them in warm water and sea salt, then scrubbed them.

I'm not sure how well it works on home coffeemakers though, because I don't even own one. But you could try it.

I scrub mine with salt and a wet cloth, i also clean the pot with sal and ice cubes...the abrasiveness of the salt scrubs away the hard to remove stains, and of course, isnt toxic...good luck
