the tumblers may be worn out in it this will cause that to happen, try moving the wheel a little bit and see if that helps the ignition turn over, other wise it may be in real bad bind or the cylinder has gone bad in it,but don't force it this may cause it to break off, then you,ll be changing the cylinder on it,good luck with it.

Mr Know It All has a good point. Your ignition switch doubles as a steering wheel lock. Sometimes if you move your steering wheel while you turn the ignition switch, you can get it to turn, because the parts of the ignition switch that lock the steering wheel when you take the keys out are kind of jammed. This is very likely if you were putting pressure on the steering wheel left or right while you were turning off the ignition. If this is the case, the steering wheel can only be moved one direction, and only a little. It won't even move the oposite way. Turn the wheel a bit in whichever direction you can turn it, to take the pressure off the ignition switch, and gently turn the key. Bear in mind that forcing it will break the key off, then you have a bigger problem.

It could be a combination of the key and the tumbler being worn out. you can try getting a new key cut which would be the cheapest thing to check. If that doesnt work, take it to a mechanic to diagnose.

Try your spare key.
Maybe that one is worn out.

ADDED:
Move your steering wheel back and fourth too.....
